Claus Janzen is still firmly committed to the virtues of blending, but has been tempted to produce Cabernet Sauvignon in its purest form. The quality of the parsimonious crop of Estate Vineyard in 2004 surpassed expectations and the 'purist' in Claus insisted that he bottle it as a vineyard-designate Cabernet Sauvignon, appropriately entitled 'Cloudy's Vineyard'.
In the past, he used most of his "Beckstoffer To Kalon" fruit in the Bacio Divino blend. In 2004, Claus was sufficiently impressed with the individuality and 'terroir' of the fruit that he decided to create another single vineyard designate Cabernet from a portion of his yield. |
